Weekly Highlights: Tribute to Paris

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - In the third week of November, ‘Weekly Highlights’ is dedicating most of its coverage to the recent unwanted tragedy occurring in the capital city of France. Thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victimized whose lives have been taken away during the undertakings of terror in Paris.

The tragedy however, does not lessen the very importance of other issues and events which have taken place domestically, regionally and internationally and thus each will surely be presented along with its importance to keep both nationwide and global audience updated.

In our international Affairs section, a series of asymmetrically-coordinated attacks in Paris has been identified as the leading breaking news reigning over our ‘Weekly Highlights’ headline. The rate of calamity of these attacks have been viewed as the second most destructive attacks since the Second World War.

Still on International Affairs section, Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo went to address his condolences over the attacks in Paris and spur international willingness to join in ventures striving for peaceful global community in the absence of terrorist act.

French Ambassador to Indonesia, Corrine Breuze made a special remark thanking Indonesia and President Jokowi for unwavering support for its French counterpart following the devastating tragedy.

‘Trending Topic’ section is still widely relevant to the recent tragedy with focus placed primarily on the blindfolded Muslim man in Paris who asked for hugs from mourners all across the city and claiming that ‘I am a Muslim, but I am not a terrorist’. Such action surely attracts global wide attention as it is likely to help lower negative sentiment general population have against Islam.

In ‘What’s on Indonesia’ section, Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton paid a visit to Indonesian Custom Office on November 19, 2015 to strengthen security relation through the test of Indonesia’s K9 unit and canine squad capability in tackling drug smuggling cases.

Last in our Embassy corner section, two special interviews for the program ‘The Ambassadors’ have been conducted with one being with South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, where he surprises the audience with his ability to sing Indonesian songs in which he believes to be the key to understanding Indonesian culture.

And the other one with Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia where long discussions placed primarily upon a wide range of topics from maritime to energy cooperation between the two nations.
