Worldwide Appreciation to Indonesia for AirAsia Discovery

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - National Search and Rescue Team of Indonesia (Basarnas) has successfully located the debris belonging to AirAsia flight QZ8501, a plane that has been lost for two days leaving family members of the crew and passengers profoundly devastated. Nationwide pessimism strikes as trauma from the hitherto ‘missing’ MH370 populated the minds of those deeply affected by this condition.

Despite the widespread of negativity, Basarnas was able to show the world its capability in finding the debris or objects belonging to the aircraft in just two days. With such success, Basarnas then earns a hero status as it is considered as the best search and rescue team in Asia.

"Indonesia has a lot of experience in handling dire situations. They are very good in investigating accidents." Greg Waldron, aviation expert told Wall Street Journal on Wednesday (31/12/2014).

According to him, Basarnas has been relatively effective and efficient on the rescue mission with results of debris and bodies found in just two days. Although bad weather halts the the following days rescue mission, it does not stop them from doing their job.

Apart from that, he says that Indonesian researchers have good relations with Aviation Safety Institutes from around the world, including the United States National Transportation Safety.

"To better make the investigation more effective, efforts should come from all sides," said the managing editor from an aviation blog site FlightGlobal.

It was further explained how the Indonesian team is viewed to have been particularly experienced in investigations and security measures in handling airplane accidents. An example, the Lion Air Boeing 737- 800 crashed down in the Bali sea on April 2013. Although reports inform that there was no casualty, the National Committee of Transportation Safety immediately issued preliminary report in the beginning of May 2013.

Another example is the report made on the accident occurred as the Sukhoi superjet 100 crashed the mountain killing 45 people in May 2012. The report was made in august 2012.

Meanwhile, an aviation analyst Will Ripley judges the Indonesian Government to be very considerate and has taken the right steps when it comes to handling the families of the victims. Indonesia continues to inform and update family members of the victims.

"Authority and the Aviation company are coordinating and cooperating well. They prioritize the families of the victims in this situation," Ripley said as quoted by CNN.

Up until now, joint Basarnas has successfully discovered a number of objects and debris thought to be parts of the missing plane. These findings were mainly collected from sector V, which is close to Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan.

Basarnas has also evacuated 7 deceased passengers which are now at KRI heading for Pangkalan Bun. The plan is to, as soon as every passenger and objects is collected, send them from Pangkalan Bun to Surabaya, East Java to be taken into identification process by the Disaster Victim Identification Team at the Indonesian Police headquarter.

The AirAsia flight QZ8501 en route Surabaya- Singapore reported to have lost contact with Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Soekarno- Hatta Airport on Sunday 28 December 2014 at around 06.17 am local time. (Akp/Riz)
