Maritime Sector as among Key Roles Binding RI-Norway Much Closer

Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Mr. Stig Traavik spoke to Liputan6.com for 'the Ambassadors' program.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Geographically situated far away from the archipelago state, Norway surprisingly shares similar national status to that of Indonesia in being maritime powers. Scope and region may be different from one another, sources of maritime power which can be supply of fish or length of maritime areas may also be different, but having maritime and fisheries as one of the leading source of natural wealth allows for the two nations to share various things in common and such commonality likely to spur deepened tie between the two through mutually benefiting and relevant exchanges.

Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Stig Traavik spent roughly 45 minutes speaking to Liputan6.com covering a wide range of topics with equal focus given to all aspects. When it comes to maritime, Mr. Stig Traavik views a growing opportunity for both nations to foster upon and for cooperation to be further utilized particularly in this field.

“Norway is a maritime nation, it is in our blood and with Indonesia now focusing very much on the maritime and I think that will produce a lot of areas where we can work even closer together”, he shared during special interview held for ‘The Ambassador’ Liputan6.com program earlier this month.

He further shared that cooperation has already stepped on that stage where intensification is already felt with Norwegian Fisheries Minister recent visitation to meet with Indonesian Maritime Minister Susi Pudjiastuti to follow up on ‘Global Sushi Challenge’.

Thus, apart from intensifying cooperation in maritime and fisheries sector and the maintaining of other specific sectors that could spur future high level visits between the two nations, there are also aspects that both nations can cooperate upon simply by learning from another.

For instance, Indonesia can learn from Norway how to resort to renewable energy as to encourage positive energy consumption and similarly, Norway can learn from Indonesia how to maintain peaceful coexistence among various religions that present within the country.
