Susi Hopes for International Support on Anti-Illegal Fishing

Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti necessitates cooperation with nations in combating illegal fishing.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - During his recent state visitation to the United States, Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo took the time to express his country’s desire to engage in the Trans Pacific Partnership initiated by the U.S.

TTP was signed in early October by 12 countries including the U.S, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

The Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs, Susi Pudjiastuti admits the fact that she does not yet have a clear notion regarding the linkage and interest of all nations which have shown commitment to participate in TPP but for Indonesia, she hopes that such commitment into the organization could help the archipelago state achieve one mission.

"I hope that TPP can act as an instrument for Indonesia to gain closer linkage to participating nations and work with these countries in the pacific to help prevent the conduction of illegal fishing," Susi stated on Tuesday 27 October 2015.

Should Indonesia is included in the TPP organization, surely it can indulge in the privilege of exchanging data and information regarding ships and vessels owned by other countries. This means that Indonesia will be a lot faster, active and informed when there is illegal fishing being conducted and the country will find out where the ship comes from.

Such ambitious pursuance however, will not be set as her main priority. According to Susi, it remains acceptable to put hopes on TPP but it will not be held accountable that much as Indonesia has already established lucrative deals with scores of countries regarding anti illegal fishing. (Akp/Tnt)
