Indonesia Forest Fire Occurences Expand to South Sulawesi Area

The district of Luwu in South Sulawesi has been subjugated with devastating fires fires akin to the ones in its neighbouring islands.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Forest and land fires continue to hit Indonesia as reports of occurrence expanded to Sulawesi island. The district of Luwu in the southern Sulawesi faces the undesirable repercussion of forest fires, which has gradually widened by 14 hectares throughout the period of this October.

“Luwu police department yielded a data informing this October’s forest fires which have hit 6 specific locations with 4 being conservation areas and 2 village areas,” Head Public Relation from South Sulawesi Police department, Frans Barung Mangera wrote to Liputan6.com, Saturday (24/10/2015).

Frans explains that the probe done on the forest fire case immediately suggests the involvement of two suspects responsible for igniting fire in the area where the fire had started.

The two suspects allegedly performed the illegal method of slash and burn in that specific area without prior knowledge of its potential exacerbation reaching as far as the areas of conservation.

“Two suspects are currently detained for questioning and further investigation over forest fires that occurred in the Southern of Sulawesi area,” he further explained.

Joint efforts of Luwu Forestry Department, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), police department, police personnel from Papua, Ambon and Central Sulawesi to extinguish the deteriorating forest fires continue to be carried out.
