Jokowi-JK: Revision, Structural Improvement, National Betterment

Today marks the first year of Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla in terms of their Presidential and Vice Presidential statuses.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Today, the 20th of October will always be a day of remembrance for the Indonesian population as it marks the date when Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and Jusuf Kalla ascended to Presidential status. Assuming such reputable role with mounting responsibilities is not an easy task and problems are far from evitable.

With the two officially reaching its first year of Presidential and Vice Presidential statuses, it is not surprising that scores of evaluation conducted by various institutions and parties as to determine which positive accomplishments should be maintained and which that are still lacking and need further improvements.

Surely, not everyone is always pleased or satisfied with the policies and agenda outlined by the government under Jokowi-JK. But such response is not uncommon as good policies do not always necessarily acceptable for some portion of the population.

Among many who have conducted evaluation upon Jokowi-JK performance, the one carried out by the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) had the most appeal with concerns placed particularly on labors and critics over the privilege given.

The Secretary General of KSPI, Muhammad Rusdi identifies three main points that have become labors primary concern. They include: wage, social security and assurance of employment.

The government recently issued economic policies in trying to appease dissatisfied population by providing the fairest estimation. But again, according to KSPI, such formulation only comes as a benefit for businessmen whereas labors demands are not fully met.

“I suppose the economic policies designed are only in the interest of businessmen but not for labors,” Rusdi stated on October 19, 2015.

But of course such preliminary remark cannot fully be held as accountable as this is only the beginning to the overall progression, which is expected to be five years in the normal terms.

Such criticism will not come as hindrance to Jokowi-JK as they are convinced that they have plenty of time for revision and improvement during the remaining years of their Presidential and Vice Presidential period.

“We celebrate our first successive year by conducting an evaluation on our performance and also taking into account examinations made by other institutions or party. And of course, we will continue to do good in the future for the betterment of our nation,” Vice President Jusuf Kalla explained on Monday 19 October 2015. (Akp/Tnt)
