Jokowi Accepts International Aid in Putting out Sumatera Fire

Forest and land fires in South Sumatera region has generated negative impacts in other neighboring countries.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has previously rejected scores of international aid requests from various countries which were aimed at the extinguishing of fires of severely burned land in the South Sumatera Province. One among many who went to propose such helpful gesture was Singapore.

President Jokowi however, feels that such aid is necessitated knowing that its impacts have exacerbated to other Southeast Asian region and generated growing criticism that likely to spur pejorative sentiment, towards Indonesian government in the end.

The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan informs that President Jokowi has decided to accept technical aid from Singapore. Singapore then, immediately dispatched one unit of Chinooks chopper.

"Malaysia similarly contributed to the efforts of putting out fire in the South Sumatera affected areas by dispatching two aircraft. We have also rented Russia's ficed wings aircraft with capacity allowing the transportation to carry 15 thousand liter of water which will be combined with specific chemical substance," Luhut informed Liputan6.com on Friday 9 October 2015.

According to Luhut, Russian fixed wings aircraft will be placed in areas close enough to the affected region and hopes that it will take only 10 minutes to conduct their mission. (Akp/Tnt)
