Expert: Virtual Skirmish is the Solution to Undermine ISIS Power

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Radical extremist group such as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has for so long hide under the banner of Islam, creating large scale misconception of global population regarding the religion Islam in general.

The largely controversial contingent has also resorted to using technology such as internet to introduce its misleading teaching and to conduct recruitment process on potential participants.

Communication expert from Paramadina University, Henry Satrio thinks that there is one solution to combat the radical group's cunning method of spreading its influence virtually.

According to him, the best way to combat this group is by applying reciprocity method where the countermeasure is focused primarily on using the same way that they have exploited as to counterattack them.

This means propaganda should be counterattacked by another propaganda aimed at the promotion and exposure of opposing perspective.

If ISIS decides to extend its influence virtually, then the government will similarly use the internet world to expand peoples’ knowledge about the danger that ISIS poses to the world and the zero benefits of participating in it.

"We cannot let ISIS surpass us, they may have recruited thousands to join their risky venture and so to keep the balance of power in terms of propaganda presented via social media platform we ought to outsmart them by actively presenting paradoxical views in the virtual world. This is deemed necessary as we need to protect the subsequent generation from the negative teachings and persuasiveness of misleading group that would only lead them astray in the end," Henry told Liputan6.com on the evening of October 7 2015.
