RI to Make Furtherance upon Nuclear Power Plant Development

The nuclear power plant site constructed in Serpong will have its operation effectively monitored by Energy and Mineral Ministry.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Apart from earning a significant status of being one of the most significant actors playing key roles in the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN), Indonesia has also acquired membership to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The archipelago nation’s commitment is most apparent through its active presence and participation in every General Conference held annually on the September of each year.

The Indonesian Extraordinary Ambassador, Rahmat Budiman along with other delegates such as Professor Djarot S. Wisnubroto and a number of researchers from the National Nuclear Agency (BATAN) surely did not miss out on the recently held 59th General Conference in Vienna Austria which commenced on the 4th of Septembers and ended on the 18th of this month.

In this year’s conference, all participating figures went to discuss a series of programs, budget allocation for each program and the designing of resolution as to make good use of atom energy to supply industrial needs.

During their visitation in Vienna for the conference held earlier this month, the Indonesian delegates took the time to conduct bilateral meetings with representatives from the Russian Federation National Nuclear Cooperation (ROSATOM), Russian Nuclear State Owned Enterprises, and AREVA, France’s Nuclear State Owned Enterprises.

The meeting held between BATAN and ROSATOM very much focused on the discussion regarding student exchange in the particular field of science and nuclear technology.

The initial planning suggests that as many as 100 individuals from Indonesia will be studying in Russia. The discussion was followed by revision on nuclear reactor maintenance and many other subjects that are relevant for the implementation and maintenance of constructed nuclear power plant.

One day prior to the end of conference session, one of Indonesian delegates, Djarot S. Wisnubroto met with the Deouty Director General (DDG) of IAEA, Mikhael Chudakov to formally yiueld documents containing Nuclear Energy System Assessment (NESA) which will be proven useful for future evaluation and legitimation of the Nuclear Power Plant Development.

The document has been viewed as an important instrument legitimizing the construction of nuclear power plant site situated in the area of Serpong.

“The construction of Nuclear Power Plants in Indonesia will be coordinated and managed by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry,”Djarot said on 17 September 2015.

Member of House Representatives, Kurtubi said that the development of nuclear power plant is very important as it plays a crucial role in replacing the soon vanished supply of other energy sources such as oil, gas and coal.

“Indonesia ought to consider the benefits of building nuclear power plant at a massive scale as it could ultimately spur economic growth amidst worrying volatility,” he shared. (Akp/Ein)
