Italy Hundred Million Investment Likely to Ease RI Import Burden

Italian companies met with Indonesian representatives in Milan discussing benefits of investment and knowledge exchange.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Coordinating Agency for Capital Investment (BKPM) has recently identified a growing interest from 11 Italian companies to come and invest in Indonesia with value amounting to US$789,5 million.

Such growing interest was becoming more apparent following their successful one-on-one meeting with the Head of BKPM, Franky Sibarani held early on Monday 7 September 2015 in Milan.

As the Coordinating Head of Indonesian Capital Investment, Franky Sibarani explains such growing interest was mostly placed on a number of specific sectors susch as telecommunication with deliberated value amounting to US$ 5.4 million alone for this particular area, electricity valued to US$ 380 million, turbine industry for the construction of power plant reaches US$ 25 million, automotive industry positioned at US$ 90 million, merchant service at US$ 10 million and construction second highest investment value amounting to US$ 280 million.

“We can safely assume that their interest to invest here is more than serious as they have planned every detailed and carefully calculated injection to Indonesia should the plan is executed and approved by the Indonesian behalf. It is in our interest to make furtherance of such interest and immediately request for permits to BKPM. These companies have held meetings with local partners and have decided the location in which they plan to invest,” Franky explains in his press conference, Tuesday (8/9/2015).

“Italian products are unquestionably popular in Indonesia, many people here have resorted to using Italian brands, mostly on the luxurious needs aspect. Now that Italian companies show interest in making Indonesia its production base, it would be great for us to take this into account as their presence here would lessen our imported goods burden,” Franky continued.

According to Franky, Italian investors did not only explain their interest of having their production base settled in the archipelago nation but also show commitment to perform exchange of knowledge with their local partners in Indonesia.

It has been reported that as many as 1.000 local workers will be employed for the investment project and thus cooperation with local universities is underway.

One on one meeting between Italian investment and Indonesian Agency for Capital Investment was held in Milan, Italia. BKPM went to coordinate with Indonesian Embassy in Rome and Italian Trade Agency (ITA), Italian governmental agency for trade and investment. (Akp/Ein)
