Fadli Zon: We Should Appreciate Trump for Investing in Indonesia

Setya Novanto and House of Representatives visitation to the U.S is not linked to Trump's campaign.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta American Presidential election is just around the corner. A number of candidates from both Democratic and Republican parties can be seen in full preoccupation of their carefully- executed campaigns throughout the United States of America.

Donald Trump, renowned real estate property developer whose popularity skyrocketed during his take on the American famous TV show, ‘The Apprentice’, is one among those candidates from the Republican political spectrum.

Trump held a press conference in his New York City Skyscraper on Thursday 3 September 2015 where he vocalized ambition on running for Presidential hot seat.

"The best way for the Republicans to win is if I win the nomination and go directly against whoever [the Democrats] happen to put up. And for that reason, I have signed the pledge,” Trump said as cited in CBS.

There was nothing unusual about the campaign as focus was placed mostly on the recently signed pledge which confirms Trump’s refusal of being a third party in the Republican candidacy and decision to allow democratic party candidates to prevail with no intervention should the verdict present likeliness of him positioned as a third party.

Just moments before wrapping up the session, the atmosphere surprisingly turned into one populated by raising questions among attendees as the Republican- backed candidate ushered back to a man he claims to be the Speaker of the House in Indonesia, Setya Novanto.

Santafenewmexican calls it as ‘unexpected spectacle’, similarly, Washington post considers such sudden gesture as bewildering as no one saw it coming.

Citing from Newsweek, Trump approached visiting speaker Setya Novanto and went to fervently ask his guest a simple question that may have a deeper meaning deemed imperative for Indonesia- US relations,

“Do they like me in Indonesia?’

Setya Novanto responded with a nod and furthered his approving gesture by giving a sincere smile whilst saying ‘yes’ followed by Trump bidding farewell which marked the end of the press conference held yesterday.

Setya Novanto’s unexpected presence in New York inevitably invited questions and spur curiosity among politicians in Uncle Sam’s land with scores of foreign media presenting the same question.

Setya Novanto was not alone as he attended the event along with his Deputy House Speaker, Fadli Zon who holds the answer to every growing question made by the general public and the media.

“Meeting held on the 26th floor of Trump Plaza at approximately 13.00,”Fadli informs, Friday (4/9/2015).

“We went to discuss economic affairs which was deepened to discussion on Trump investment in Indonesia. Ethically, we should appreciate anyone who is willing to invest in our country despite currently uncertain economic climate,” he continued.

The 30 minutes meeting was held prior to Trump’s press conference and so Fadli makes necessary clarification suggesting the fact that the Indonesian House Representatives presence was in no way linked to the campaign and that they were there during the conference because they were invited to witness Trump’s campaign.

“The US election is none of our business. Why establish involvement when we have no voice over it. The American people are the ones holding the key answer as to whom fits Presidential criterion, we are simply happy to have any American President that is nice to us. Both Obama and Trump are good friends to us Indonesia,” he concluded. (Akp/Ein)
