Jakarta Governor to Allow all Students to Ride Bus for Free

Initially, only those who own Jakarta Smart Card that are allowed to ride the bus for free, now Governor Basuki extends opportunities.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The capital city of Jakarta government enthusiastically envisions its population to become much more attracted to using public transportation on a daily basis. This is not an uncommon ambition as the city is constantly decorated with traffic build- up caused by the continually escalating number of private vehicles.

Transjakarta has emerged to be one of the many solutions that the regional government had carefully implemented at its inception. The mode of transportation facility has recently become a free of charge one for students who own the 'Jakarta Smart Card' (KJP). Such policy apparently attracted students who have no or have not applied for KJP.

Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has previously declared that students with financial- capability will not receive such privilege and it will only be given to the unfortunate ones. However, he currently considers the likeliness of making it free of charge for all students despite their financial background.

"We are considering for all students to be able to ride the bus for free," Governor Basuki said, Jakarta, Tuesday (25/8/2015).

According to him, letting students to ride the bus for free will help ease their parents burden of having to take them to school every morning amidst busy and tight schedule at work. Thus, time will not be wasted for each individual and underage students will not have to use motorcycles illegally like what have been evidently presented on the streets within areas of Jakarta.
