Vatican Minister in Awe over Indonesia’s Pluralism

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno LP Marsudi received a courtesy call on Tuesday afternoon from honored guest of the Vatican. ‘Gedung Pancasila’ of the Foreign Ministry Building has been used to become the venue facilitating the courtesy call of Vatican Foreign Minister who is an Italian Cardinal of the catholic Church, Pietro Parolin with Minister Retno.

The purpose of such visitation is to deepen the ties between the two countries. Shortly after his arrival, Cardinal Pietro was immediately greeted by Minister Retno and the General Directorate for America and Europe, Dian Triansjah Djani.

Both of them held a one hour-long private meeting following the opening speech. Minister Retno said she was content to have been involved in the discussion with Vatican Foreign Minister as she was given the privilege of examining issues that are relevant to both nations.

She also said that Vatican told her about their amazement towards Indonesia’s implementation of pluralism within the nation’s societal system.

“Minister Parolin said that he ‘respects’ and is amazed by how Indonesia strives through being a pluralistic nation despite its geographical size and a wide variety of ethnicity and beliefs,” Minister Retno informed, Jakarta, Tuesday 11 August 2015.

Similarly, Minister Parolin said he is happy to be able to come to Indonesia with its unique variation of religious belief, cultural background and islands. (Akp/Ein)
