Arrested Senior Lawyer Writes to President Jokowi

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian senior lawyer, OC Kaligis is currently under arrest by the National Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following a series of allegations placed upon him in the bribing case of Medan High Court Judge in North Sumatera.

Currently detained, OC Kaligis is said to have been writing a letter to Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, describing the institution of KPK’s inhumane treatment upon him which most of the time expressed through intimidation.

A member of his legal team, Johnson Panjaitan confirms such unwanted condition and briefly explains OC Kaligis’ move of resorting to President Jokowi to Liputan6.com during pre- trial session of his case.

He went to explain what the letter was all about.

“Basically, the letter was written by OC Kaligis to President Jokowi with the purpose of letting him know that KPK has been using intimidation to make him uncomfortable inside and that OC Kaligis insists for the President to take this seriously and re-evaluate the institution which has mentally subjugated him so that they would follow the procedure and dismiss such obstructive behavior,” Johnson said, Jakarta High Court, Monday (10/8/2015).

He further explains how OC Kaligis is not given the rights to basic needs such as medical attention even in such isolation. His age clearly defines his inability to perform well psychologically and mentally especially during pressured time like this and thus it has been argued that such restriction comes as hindrance to the proceeding of his case. It was worsened by the restriction of seeing his family members. (Akp/Rie)
