Police of ASEAN Nations Unite Against Transnational Criminals

Head of RI Police highlights importance of collectively combating 8 most dangerous transnational crimes.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesia has been chosen to be main venue to hold the 35th ASEANAPOL regional-level police conference for law enforcers of countries within the Southeast Asian region.

The Head of Indonesian Police Badrodin Haiti thinks that ASEANAPOL forum seamlessly acts as an instrument to help strengthen cooperative gesture of involving ASEAN nations, in addressing any form of crime-related issues.

All conference participants agreed on the very idea that there are 8 most blatant and potent form of criminal acts that these nations should collectively combat against.

These alarming form of acts include widespread of elicit drugs, terrorism, human trafficking, and economic form of criminality which can range from corruption, bribery, money laundering, racketeering, robbery to embezzlement.

"These 8 major crimes should remain on our watch as those can be considered as transnational illegal venture with its network potential reaching the international arena and likely to involve a number of countries," Badrodin uttered in his speech at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday 4 August 2015.

"From time to time, we expect productive progress from the collectively done mission in addressing these transnational crimes," he continued.

Though ambitiously said and done, Badrodin explains how addressing these issues are far from easy and it is caused primarily by the differences that exist among each country's laws and acts upon these crimes. (Akp/Tnt)
