Russia Demands 'Fair and Unbiased' Investigation on MH17 Case

Russia seeks cooperative gesture of UN Security Council and members in unravelling MH17 case.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 on July 17 2014 effectively brought discontentment and worry to those planning to travel using airplane as their mode of transportation. This is no longer a surprise as the arguably catastrophic crash was viewed to be a deterioration of the previous incident of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, that hitherto pronounced as still missing which led to execution of extensive investigation.

What perplexes the general society even more and what makes the devastating incident of MH17 a particularly worth-investigating case is the fact that the crash carried with it, a significantly larger implication that has largely attracted the United Nations and overtly caused for its decision of involvement into the unraveling of the case.

On July 29 2015, The UN Security Council, supported by countries with membership to the institution, decided that it was deemed imperative to address the issue of MH 17 crash as there was a growing collective desire to bring the perpetrators behind such incident into justice and bring closure to families of victims. Such ambition led to the establishment of an international tribunal for the prosecution of those implicated in the unwanted tragedy.

Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov went to express on behalf of his country’s deepest condolences to the families of all MH 17 crash victims who died from such 'monstrous' tragedy. And also that it severely condemns the hitherto unidentified actors, which have inconsiderately took the lives of these people.

"We have constantly stressed our commitment to the unavoidability of punishment for the perpetrators of this crime,” Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey commented during discussions held on the furtherance of MH 17 investigation at the UN Security Council, Monday 3 August 2015.

Though it was collectively agreed by members of UN Security Council and its member nations that such action needs to be addressed as to find the warmongering actors that led to the occurrence of such fatal incident, the way in which they want to settle the issue seems to have been in conflict with one another.

Four days following the devastating crash, Minister Sergey informs, the UN Security Council approved what was called as ‘Resolution 2166’ which Russia was largely in favor for as it dwells on the very idea that an investigation on such worrying case will rely heavily on transparency and will comply solely to ‘universally acceptable basis for international cooperation’.

According to him, this was seen to be a positively growing prospect to help the unraveling of such case and so Russia felt it was necessary for it to present its sustenance and propositions which support the UN Security Council’s endeavor in maximizing its potentials placed on this case.

Russia strongly believes that Resolution 2166 with its profound aim, could help facilitate all involving parties with the most accurate and reasonable explanation about 'who is to blame and should incur punishment' in relation to MH17.

Russia however, was extremely unhappy with the verdicts of meeting of such resolution as their proposal was rejected and not taken into full consideration by the sponsors.

Their discontentment was immediately apparent following the sponsor's hasty and lack of consideration move of rushing the case through an international tribunal resolution that limits the possibility of visiting other feasible and collectively fair options.

Russia's discontentment exacerbated as it has come to a realization that the vote against its proposition was thought to be politically-motivated with member countries reportedly insisted to make such prematurely uttered decision.

"We would like to reiterate our commitment to a thorough and unbiased international investigation into the crash of the Malaysian aircraft. Russia will continue to do its utmost to provide every possible assistance to the investigation," Minister Sergey firmly stated in his concluding remark. (Akp/Tnt)
