Indonesia Seeks Ways to Rescue Arrested Citizens in Saudi Arabia

Indonesia hopes for Saudi Arabian government’s pardoning gesture on 11 arrested Indonesian nationals

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian Foreign Ministry is currently coordinating with the Saudi Arabian government to settle a matter involving the recent arrest of 11 Indonesians in the Saudi Arabian region.

These Indonesian nationals reportedly caught for performing Muslim religious practice during Eid Mubarak’s day in front of Kabah situated in Mecca. Saudi Arabian authority investigation upon such issue is currently underway.

“We went to meet with the Saudi Arabian authority and our citizens there.Though limited in access and information, we are trying our best to find out what was really going on and how bad their mistake was.We have also tried and will continue to put an effort to help these Indonesian nationals and get them home safely back to the country,” Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno LP Marsudi explained on Friday 31 of July 2015.

There has also been a growing speculation suggesting these 11 people’s religious belief as a false and misleading one.

Minister Retno however, said that she cannot yet make further clarification nor information regarding such premature speculation.

“No, we cannot yet confirm that, we will look upon such assumption later after we are done addressing the first issue, that is to rescue our arrested people,” she continued.

Minister Retno admits that her department’s main priority for the time being is to send off these 11 people back to Indonesia before resuming to the pejorative speculation placed upon them. (Akp/Ein)
