Philippines Requests for a 'Delay' on Mary Jane's Death Penalty

The execution of Philippines heroin- smuggler by the Indonesian government is long overdue and now her government doubled effort.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The struggle is becoming more apparent than ever for Philippines government as they put out effort to rescue Mary Jane out of the possibility of being imprisoned by Indonesian authority for drugs-related charges.

The government of Philippines’ effort went as far as the deployment of its chosen delegations to formally request for the Indonesian Attorney General’s pardoning gesture on Mary Jane and personally requested for the Indonesian authority to allow for her to testify against her accomplice whose human trafficking business has caused for the deterioration of her case.

The Head of Public Relations from the Attorney General’s department, Tony T Spontana informed that those who are delegated by the Philippines government include representatives from the Judiciary, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the embassy itself which is situated in the Jakarta region. Their primary focus is to propose the notion of moratorium on Mary Jane’s execution which should have been done on the 28th of April 2015.

“The purpose of our visitation is to kindly propose request for Mary Jane’s execution moratorium. We hope that the Indonesian government agree to respect the legal process she has to undergo first in Philippines,” Tony informed on Wednesday 29 July 2015.

Tony further explained that these 13 delegations dispatched by the government of Philippines were trying to encourage his department to consider their ‘Mutual Legal Assistance’ (MLA) request.

Such request includes the possibility of allowing Mary Jane to contribute into the process of sorting the human trafficking issue by providing a direct testimony back in her country.

The MLA proposition was put under the Ministry of Legal and Human Rights department evaluation. It has been reported that these delegates are scheduled to make a visitation to Wirogunan Correctional Institution on the 31st of July.

Despite blatant eagerness of Philippines government in trying to rescue Mary Jane from both human trafficking issue and the harsh capital punishment placed upon her by the Indonesian government, Tony continued to stand on the very idea that Mary Jane should comply with the laws of Indonesian authority especially after evidence collected clearly suggested her status as an international scale heroin smuggler.
