Indonesia Shares why Peacekeeping Troops Deemed Imperative

RI Foreign Minister tells about the nation's ongoing commitment to attain and mantain since 1957.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian Minister of Foreign Relations, Retno Marsudi has officially opened the intra- state meeting between countries who have decided to donate for the ‘Peace Force’ within the Asia- Pacific region.

The high- level conference will take two days and will be done in Jakarta.

In her speech, Minister Retno highlights the importance of Peace Force in stabilizing and continual monitoring of conflicts within the region.

They are not only necessitated by the international audience but also to a country like Indonesia.

“For Indonesia, the peacekeeping force is an important element that has been included in the Indonesian Foreign Policy and also counts as an integral part of the constitution mandate,” Minister Retno informed, Jakarta, Monday (27/7/2015).

She further shares how Indonesia has shown its contribution to attain and maintain world peace through this program since a long time ago.

Thus, she believes that such commitment needs to continually be reminded and maintained so that no country forgets the imperativeness of Peace Force.

“Since 1957, Indonesia had deployed more than 40 thousands peacekeeping troops to help the success of The United Nations peace mission. Our last deployment was for UNAMID mission in Darfur and Sudan with us dispatching as many as 800 Peace Force personnel. This clearly shows how much we are ambitious in trying to stay true to our commitment,” she continued.

Minister Retno also further informs how Indonesian commitment goes to the extent of developing a UN peacekeeping troops training camps at Sentul, Bogor. (Akp/Rie)
