The Power of Persuasion to Prevent Loved Ones from Drugs

Head of RI Police Badrodin Haiti thinks death penalty will not stop people from using or distributing drugs.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Head of Indonesian Police, Badrodin Haiti said that drugs related issues in Indonesia cannot be addressed by relying solely on death penalty.

Seeing people being executed does not make them reconsider their desire to continue using or distributing drugs.

Not only law enforcers, the general society is also encouraged to help these governing authorities to fight against the widespread of drugs.

"The most powerful weapon to combat drugs is for all layers of society to cooperate and fight against it together," Badrodin informed shortly after signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) at the Indonesian Police Headquarter, Jakarta, Friday (10/7/2015).

According to Badrodin, the first step to remove drugs from this nation is to raise people's awareness especially for each family to continually remind other members about the dire consequences of using or distributing such illegal products.

Preventive measures usually work best when it is initiated from within or internally in a society.

"For example, for my own family's sake, I could prevent my wife, my kids and myself away from drugs. This is already a successful attempt and a proper one. But many of them start caring only when the tragedy is already happening," he concluded. (Akp/Ein)
