Hundreds of Indonesian in Greece Identified with Expired Visa

The Indonesian government has not yet confirmed any intention to recall its population that are currently residing in Greece.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Relations informs that there are thousands of Indonesian nationals currently residing in Greece who lost their jobs due to acute economic crisis the country has been subjugated from for the past couple of days.

The Director of Indonesian citizens Legal Protection from the Foreign Ministry, Muhammad Iqbal said that his department has received a data informing the presence of hundreds of overstayer Indonesians in the currently in turmoil country.

This means, that those who have lost their jobs are the ones who stay illegally in the region.

"Out of the total of 1.900 Indonesians residing in Greece, 700 of them have been identified as overstayers with most of them working for domestic sectors," Iqbal informed, Friday (10/7/2015).

The Indonesian government has not yet administered mission to get Indonesian citizens out of Greece.

However, they are planning to administer one soon and will be considering all kinds of method to get the Indonesian population out of Greece including deportation.

According to Iqbal, the Indonesian Embassy in Athens has already been instructed to perform headcounts on the Indonesian citizens there.

This is to anticipate the future of possible evacuation process of these people. "We have encouraged the Indonesian embassy in Athens to continually update us with data and make an assessment about it," he concluded. (Akp/Ein)
