Dozens Flight Cancelled Due to Mount Raung’s Eruption

The number of cancelled flights is likely to increase overtime.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Due to the recent calamitous eruption of Raung Mountain in East Java, as many as 13 flights en route Jakarta- Denpasar have been cancelled.

PT Angkasa Pura II (AP) of Soekarno Hatta International Airport just recently yields confirmation as to the possibility of cancellation on other flights.

According to the Head of Corporate Secretary and Legal AP II, Agus Haryadi, 13 flights have already been cancelled in the early hours this Friday. "There are already 13 flights being cancelled that were scheduled to depart before noon. All of them are flights from Jakarta to Bali," he informed, Friday (10/7/2015).

The number of flights with potentiality of being cancelled continues to increase especially with reports claiming that Ngurah Rai international airport will be closed until later at night.

"If that is really the case, then the number of cancelled flights will increase. I have not yet checked how many will be cancelled," he added.

The cancellation of flights was due to the fear of black clouds as a result of mount Raung eruption interfering the routes of the flight. Had flights not being cancelled, the damage would be a fatal one with these airplanes flying blind in the dark.

There are no alternative air routes to get into the island as the black clouds from the eruption surrounded the area. (Akp/Ein)
