Foreign Ministry to Provide Quick Assistance to Citizens Abroad

Indonesian Foreign Ministry is updating its website so it can effectively provide assistance to population who resides in other countries.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is currently updating its website as part of its endeavour to address issues involving Indonesian citizens abroad  more effectively and efficiently.

For the past couple of months, the department is faced with insurmountable issues ranging from popular outcry of Western population protesting against Indonesia's arguably 'harsh' capital punishment on many of foreigners to issue of Australian Federal police leaked document concerning two Indonesian pilots who were reported to have expressed interest to join the radical group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on their facebook page.

The Ministry is responsible for any clarifications needed and sometimes they face difficulty in doing so as the circulation of these days information come from mouth to mouth or other illegitimate sources such as the social media.

With such challenges at hand, the Ministry is currently updating as well as upgrading its website.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Arrmanatha Nasir, the newly updated website will be beneficial to both the department and the Indonesian citizens residing in countries outside of Indonesia.

"The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is now updating its website so that in the future, the Indonesian population abroad will have easier access to do registration online and sort out administration- related issues such as replacement of missing passport and many others," Arrmanatha Nasir explained during press briefing at the Foreign Ministry office, Jakarta, Thursday (9/7/2015).

He also went to inform how such website will help the department gain information from Indonesian citizens abroad about what is going on so that it is not overlapped by information spread by illegitimate sources.

"Like the disaster in Nepal, our website allows RI citizens to give us information about it so we will know it first hand and provide legitimate assistance to the Indonesian population who are victimized by the situation," he added.

According to him, the Ministry has to be able to gain information as to what is happening to Indonesians all across the globe as it will be the one asked for clarification. (Akp/Ein)
