RI Considers Challenging Myanmar on Rohingya Case Internationally

President Jokowi encouraged to consider 4 'harsh' petitions against Myanmar government to end ethnic cleansing of Rohingya population.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - A considerably large amount of Indonesian people have voluntarily engaged themselves in the Indonesian Society Care for Rohingya Refugees Coalition (KMIIPR), to help these refugees emancipate themselves from the subjugation they have to experienced in Myanmar.

KMIIPR support was presented in a form of petition with requests placed mostly upon the need to put an end to the atrocity and slaughter on Rohingya population.

The joint coalition of this compassionate group feels that the Rohingya abomination will put the notion of human rights into question.

The petition is taken seriously by the statesmen in the House of Representatives (DPR) and will be vocalized in the international arena as to raise global awareness and remind global actors the imperativeness of addressing such regionally- influential issue.

"We have spread this petition both online and offline where it is distributed to the people straightaway. The verdicts of the petition will be delivered to DPR. And so we are hoping for DPR willingness to initiate the furtherance of this mission by taking it to the international level," KMIPR Coordinator, Adnin Armas informed, Monday (29/6/2015).

According to Adnin, cruelty against Rohingya population in Myanmar has started since the early years of 1950s with very little exposure to the global audience.

For decades, the general population have been repetitively reminded through the subject of history about the viciousness of Soviet Union's Marxist- Leninist Communist leader, Joseph Stalin and Germany's Fascist/ ultra nationalist Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler.

The word 'genocide' is often associated with these two infamous leaders and so other genocide or ethnic cleansing in other parts of the world receive very little attention from the global population.

Rohingya case was mostly exposed to intellectuals and interested writers who dedicate their lives to facilitate the academic and other type of relevant institutions with information and profound analysis on the issue.

A Buddhist intellectual from Burma, Dr. Maung Zarni was one of the arguably few people who have written an article describing the Rohingya situation since its inception in the 1950s entitled 'The Slow- Burning Genocide of Myanmar's Rohingya' which was included in the Pacifc Rim Law and Policy Journal.

"In his article, Dr. Maung explains in detail the systematically executed genocide on Rohingya population by Myanmar government. The prevailing outlook hitherto focuses much on viewing Rohingya population as illegal immigrants, a threat to national security, virus, intruders, a threat to Myanmar's culture and economic blood- suckers," he continued.

With such alarming humanitarian issue remains unresolved, KMIPR insists for the Indonesian government to contribute in the issue- addressing processes and encourage other nations to yield a little bit of their attention to this matter.

Rohingya case can appropriately be categorized as an international issue as it generates both regional and global impact.

"There are 4 petitions we aim to brief the President about. The first one involves the need for President Jokowi to revisit its diplomatic relations with Myanmar," Adnin added.

The second one, placing a sanction on Myanmar's asset  by instructing businessmen and State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to freeze and momentarily halt their investments in Indonesia until further notice.

The third one is for President Jokowi to consider Myanmar's exclusion from ASEAN membership.

"The last one, we demand for the Indonesian government to initiate boycott against Myanmar's government and have its politicians blacklisted," Adnin concluded. (Akp/Tnt)
