Indonesia Aims First Fish Exporter Position within ASEAN Region

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesia is a country made out of thousand islands and its strategic location has made it the number two longest coastlines in the whole world. 

Despite such fact however, the country is still situated at rank number 5 within the ASEAN region. 

The Indonesian Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs, Susi Pudjiastuti said that the nation is fully equipped with maritime potentials that could be very beneficial in terms of its fish production.

With its strategic location, Indonesia can be the number one exporter of fish within the ASEAN region.

"All this time, we look up to countries like Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. These countries situated far away from the ocean but they are the biggest sea food exporter in ASEAN. We have the privilege of having the ocean so close to us, then we should learn how to surpass those nations with limitation," Minister Susi informed, Jakarta, Thursday (28/5/2015).

The reason behind such low exported fish production in Indonesia is because of the continuity of illegal fishing in the Indonesian ocean by foreign vessels. 

That is why Minister Susi is eager to demolish those vessels as it would be a traumatizing example for other foreign vessels who want to illegally fish in Indonesia. (Akp/Ein)
