Papua Separatist Group Declares War on Indonesian Armed Forces

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The separatist group in Papua which has named themselves 'Organisasi Papua Merdeka' (OPM) or Independent Papua Organization has yielded what is believed to a be a terrorist threat. 

The separatist group under the leadership of Puron Wenda and Enden Wanimbo reportedly challenged the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) by provoking its engagement in an open warfare with them and determine to exert violent methods towards non- Papua population currently residing in the area.

"According to the reports collected, the organization has openly invited TNI and non- Papua population to engage in what seems to be a physical combat with them. This is a form of ‘real’ terror that requires our extra attention. I suggest for the Indonesian Anti-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and the Anti- Terror Force (Densus 88) to address such issue by responding accordingly to such undesirable and provocative invitation," People House of Representative (DPR) statesmen, Aboebakar Ahabsyi said to Liputan6.com, Jakarta, Monday (25/5/2015).

Aboebakar views Densus 88 overall response as paradoxical and ineffective. 

He thinks it is imperative for the agency to exert more power and willingness to sort out the worrying issue caused by the terrorist group which hitherto hides under the banner of 'Islam'.

"People often ask us regarding Densus 88’s action towards the terror imposed. Many would be disappointed to see them unresponsive or just remaining silent in addressing such issue," Aboebakar informed.

Aboebakar further adds how the threats coming from these extremist groups who claim to be fighting in the name of 'Allah', ought to be challenged with the unwavering determination of our agency in eradicating it. (Akp/Ein)
