Indonesia's Stance in a Competitive Global Industrial Environment

Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy thinks competing with advanced nations is not the right strategy for Indonesia to surpass them.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - While it is true that Indonesia is progressing towards a positive trend seen from its infrastructure development, it remains unrealistic for the country to surpass developed nations within just a short period of time.

The Indonesian Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms, Yuddy Chrisnandi admits how Indonesia is still ranked far behind countries with continually progressing industries.

For him, it is reasonable for Indonesia to engage itself in a continually competitive environment, but for the nation to set developed nations as role models is too overwhelming to bear.

He thinks setting countries with advanced industry as examples, is not the right strategy to help Indonesia earns such position.

"I don't think competing with advanced nations is the right strategy to boost our nationwide spirit. Competing with these nations means competing with such high technology and we don’t have that yet," Yuddy said in Jakarta, Saturday (23/5/2015).

Yuddy thinks it is better off for the Indonesian government to focus more on utilising its very own natural resources, and continue the development of President Jokowi and Vice Jusuf Kalla's programs in improving the welfare of its people.

This is because, a nation cannot be called an advanced one regardless of its advanced infrastructure displays, unless its people are prosper enough for such claim to become legitimate. (Akp/Tnt)
