LRT Transport to Rescue Jakarta Citizens from Traffic Build-up

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama discussion with President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo at the Presidential Palace today, does not only cover issue relating to Jakarta preparation for 2018 Asian Games but also about the progress of Light Rail Transit (LRT) project development.

"I have been meaning to see him to discuss several matters and President Jokowi himself wanted to meet me as well to know the progress of LRT," Governor Basuki informed at the City Hall, Jakarta, Friday (15/5/2015).

Governor Ahok shares how the development of LRT is a project of combined parties which include the Indonesian government, State owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Regional Enterprises (BUMD). 

The government's role is to build the infrastructure whereas BUMN and BUMD are responsible for the purchasing of rolling stock and LRT operating system. 

"President Jokowi demands for a ground breaking project this year. So that’s why we build such mode of mass transportation," he explained.

The construction of such mass transportation costs as much as Rp 35 trillion. The involving parties are currently preoccupied with the construction of corridor number 1 and will continue its progress until all the 7 corridors are completely done.

Moreover, President Jokowi has also instructed PT. Adhi Karya (Persero) to help build the LRT in Jakarta as a replacement of the hitherto unfinished monorail project. LRT is expected to help reduce traffic build up in Jakarta by 30%. (Akp/Ger)
