7 Men Likely to Face Death Penalty for Smuggling 580.000 Ecstasy

BNN finally captured leading drugs smugglers in the North Sumatera area which reportedly received the 'goods' from Malaysia.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has decided to implement heavy capital punishment such as death penalty for those who are arrested for large- scale drugs charges.

President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo adopted such policy as he wants to set an example for other drug users, couriers and distributors across the country so that they would reconsider the idea of taking or distributing the drugs itself.

Apparently, such 'deadly example' did not scare off some of the dealers and drugs network in Medan, North Sumatera as they were caught trying to smuggle 580.000 ecstasy pills and 20 kg of crystal meth.

The smuggling effort was immediately discovered by the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) which led to the arrest of 7 suspects.

Deputy of BNN Drugs Eradication Department, Deddy Fauzy Elhakim informs how the findings were being sent from an illegal port situated in Tanjung Balai, North Sumatera.

Perpetrators were heading to Aceh where they plan to divide the drugs into two packages.

"They took the sea route and have the drugs safely secured at an unsupervised fishermen harbour. These drugs reportedly came from Malaysia," Deddy shared, Wednesday (13/5/2015).

Consequently, all of the suspects will have to face the very possibility of death penalty placed upon them due to large-scale drugs charges. (Akp/Tnt)
