Why is it Difficult to Address Jakarta Transportation Issue?

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - One of the traditional and hitherto unresolved challenges the city of Jakarta has to face is the issue of badly-managed transportation. Despite Jakarta government undying effort to address such issue, the condition is still largely unpromising.

Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok remarks by suggesting the reason behind such failure rooted from the ineffectiveness and incompetence of regional government.

"Now we are being pressured. Why aren’t we doing something about it? Why does it matter when it is no longer a secret that our regional government is evidently lacking in competency to address such issue," Governor Ahok informed, Jakarta, Friday (8/5/2015).

The most recent transportation issue comes from the tumult with the Integrated Busway Transportation (APTB) operator about the furtherance of operational procedure. Additionally, public buses drivers show no sign of improvement from its reckless behavior.

"Who has the authority and who is responsible for financing such improvement? Surely the regional government and therefore I could not help them unless they are willing to change and take into account my outlook upon this issue," he continued.

He pointed out the ironic fact that businessmen are not afraid to impose threats to the government because they are unquestionably weak and susceptible to bribery. Thus, it is particularly difficult to make a change when all involving parties lack the motivation to coordinate with one another. (Akp/Tnt)
