Jakarta Ranked at Number 64 as Most-Liveable City in The World

Despite the city's blatant drawbacks, it has earned itself a globally- acknowledged status as one among most liveable cities in the world.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The rampant urbanization illustrating the population advancement from the rural or village areas to the city has been viewed as a hindering aspect to the national’s development.

The number may escalate to 68% with many people deciding to storm into the city. The people in the rural areas generally think that city has more employment opportunities and provide better accommodation for living.

Their general interpretation of city is often associated with futuristic display of buildings, abundant pool of employment with relatively high salary, advanced and unorthodox lifestyle and the easy shortcut to gain respectable status from their families and friends back in the village.

With minimum knowledge of the challenges they will face as soon as they embark on the city, a large number of villagers uncontrollably marched into the city to pursue their very own interest.

The Indonesian government is determined to develop other areas apart from the big cities as to achieve progress that would ultimately attract individuals to come and reside.

This is also to control the rampant urbanization which for many years has caused for the population imbalance in one region and another.

SDSN Leadership Council and the Former Republic of Indonesia's Minister, Mari Elka Pangestu said that the population of West Java, Jakarta and Banten altogether amounted to 59% from the total population. The Gross Domestic Products of these 3 regions reaching 61% and its output 67%.

"Jakarta has been included in the list of cities worth-living in with it positioned at number 64 just after Manila which ranked number 63. Number 1 position is won by Geneva which is followed by Zurich in number 2 and Singapore number 3," Mari shared during the 'Tropical Landscapes Summit', Jakarta, Monday (27/4/2015).

Mari shared how she desires the possibility of Indonesia to move up to better ranks but realized the challenges such as traffic, badly managed public transportations, pollutions, poverty, criminality and stressful environment are difficult to abolish in the shorter term and therefore such desire will have to be pursued with a lot of patience and determination.

"That is why there are propositions suggesting the construction of additional 'green' open area just across EX shopping centre, Plaza Indonesia and Thamrin City," she continued.

The Deputy of Industrial, trade and transportation sector from Jakarta Government, Sutanto Soehodho explained how Jakarta is positioned at a very risky region where it cannot run from the inevitability of flood as the repercussion of continuous heavy rain in Bogor area.

However, the undying ambition to establish progressive development in the city has made it so desirable to live in (Akp/Ein)
