Jokowi Heeds Philippines President Woo Over Mary Jane Execution

Liputan6.com, Jakarta On the sidelines of ASEAN Summit currently held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (27/4/2015), President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo managed to follow through a privately- held meeting with the Philippines President, where both leaders discuss the execution of Mary Jane Veloso.

The soon- to-be executed Philippine woman was captured by the Indonesian authority for attempting to smuggle 2,6 kg of heroin.

"Basically, President Aquino was seeking for my pardoning gesture towards his citizen that is currently in the death row at Nusakambangan. He was hoping that I could change my mind," President Jokowi answered when asked about the topic of his meeting with President Aquino, Halim Perdana Kusuma Airbase, Jakarta, Monday (27/4/2015). 

President Jokowi shared his response towards the request made and claimed that he did not give immediate answer to the request and informed President Aquino how further consultation with the Indonesian Attorney General deemed necessary should there be any reconsideration for Mary Jane's capital punishment.

"I will discuss this with the Attorney General," President Jokowi shared his answer previously conveyed to President Aquino.

President Jokowi promised President Aquino immediate response shortly after he communicated his intention to the Indonesian Attorney General.

"I told him that I will let him know the final verdict this evening. I told him that I’d call the Attorney General and whatever decision we make, I will not forget to notify President Aquino," President Jokowi concluded. (Akp/Ein)
