Kartini Day in The Eyes of 'Putri Indonesia 2015'

Putri Indonesia presence at Asia- Africa Conference seen as important to symbolise RI culture and tradition.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesia is currently hosting the 60th Asia- Africa Conference Commemoration. Especially for today (21/4/2015), the nation also rejoices the celebration of Kartini day. Kartini has been widely known as national hero who is hitherto adored by many women for her unwavering ambition to fight for women emancipation, in what seems to be an orthodox atmosphere during her era.

Thus, today’s commemoration will not only focus on the gatherings of Indonesia’s representatives with foreign delegations but also the remembrance of Kartini. Inside the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, many Indonesian women have resorted to wearing the traditional ‘kebaya’ outfit similar to the one being worn by Kartini in the past. Indonesian women spirit in the venue is already apparent with many walking by in her beautifully modernized ‘kebaya’.

As the Kartini day representative during the third day of Asia- Africa Conference Commemoration, the winner of  2015 ‘Putri Indonesia’, Anindya Kusuma has taken the time to pay a visit to the venue. With her elegantly clothed in red ‘kebaya’, her presence is deemed important as to show participating foreign delegations the Indonesian culture, tradition and acknowledgment for women’s rights.

“This year’s Kartini day is as exciting as the ones we had in previous years. I see it as a reminder for us women to continue strive for our emancipation in honor of the national hero, Ibu Kartini,” Anindya shared to Liputan6.com at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Tuesday (21/4/2015).

When asked about the ‘kebaya’ dress she was wearing, Anindya claimed that it is a strong representation to Indonesia’s culture and many foreign delegations who came across her have expressed their curiosity and interest towards her ‘kebaya’. Among those who are interested, one of them was Jordan.

“Yes, Jordanian delegations came up to me and asked me about my ‘kebaya’ and they were evidently fascinated by our traditional outfit,” she added.

“I have seen many Indonesian women in the building who wear kebaya,” she continued explaining.

It is the right opportunity for Indonesia to show its tradition and culture precisely on the day where the 60th Asia- Africa Conference is being held. Anindya views her presence and outfit as a symbol to the nation’s culture in front of foreign delegations from various countries.

“This could raise foreign delegations awareness about Kartini Day and the traditional outfit,” she further explained.

Through this presentation, Indonesian women will not only be seen as elegant individuals with princess- like attributes, but also strong, intelligent and capable human beings who can contribute to this nation’s success just as much as men population. (Akp/Ein)
