Palestine Discusses Hindrance Met in Achieving Independence

During AAC event, Palestinian Foreign Minister shares how some countries hinder its way towards finding resolutions.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Palestinian independence becomes one of the most hotly discussed topics in the 60th Asia- Africa Conference Commemoration. Indonesia has bravely made a proposition to encourage participating nations to consider and present full support the independence of Palestine.

The relationship between Indonesia and Palestine has been developed for a long time and President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo feels that the independence declaration for the friendly currenly subjugated nation will contribute to the progression of peace restoration.

The Palestinian Minister of Foreign Relations, Riyad Al Maliki is among many of the foreign delegations who is currently in Jakarta to show participation into the event.

Discussing future potential independence, he went to take the time to share a story about the conflict Palestine and Israel encountered that hitherto halt reconciliation process.

When asked about the progress towards achieving peace, Minister Al Maliki points out the challenges faced.

He shares how Palestine has resorted to the United Nation Security Council for so many times to request for help. However, the effort is not without any hindrance.

"Well we have tried the Security Council. We failed because the United States intervened. We will be seeking help again from the Security Council to help end Israeli military occupation because we think we deserve such independence," Minister Al Maliki explained, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Monday (20/4/2015).

Al Maliki  further explains how the difficulty encountered in gaining support from the UN Security Council lies on the fact that some countries in the Council who possess veto powers refuse to support resolution- attaining progress.

He did not want to reveal the name of the country but he reveals how such refusal to support the progression left the problem unsolved.

"The UN Security Council has always been hijacked by countries who enjoy veto powers and in the last couple of years, we were prevented from getting important resolutions from the Security Council because those who have veto rights have used it abusively," he added. (Akp/Ein)
