RI Drugs - Users Ranging from Elementary Students to Politicians

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Head of Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in North Sumatera, Andi Ludianto admits how the drugs abuse has become an escalating trend which gradually damages the nation's morale. 

Its influence exacerbated as it is extended to elementary school students.

"This year, it is estimated that there are around 400 thousand victims of drugs abuse coming from a varying range of age starting from those in elementary school to governmental officials. Authorities such as judges, prosecutors, legislative members and regional heads have enjoyed drugs usage during their spare time," Andi informed, Saturday (18/4/2015).

Ironically, some of those in academic institutions also fell hard for drugs- usage with the recent case revealing the detainment of a university professor.

With the undesirable condition, Andi hopes that every authority personnel continue to exert its contribution to prevent the escalation on the number of drugs user.

"Drugs have damaged the morale of the nation and it strikes from every direction," he added.

North Sumatera Governor, Pujo Nugroho viewed the effort to eliminate drugs is the responsibility of each individual. 

It is imperative to exert every power necessary to teach the society about the dire consequences of such usage.

According to Gatot, the movement to rehabilitate 100.000 national drugs- abuse victims is the country's sincere gesture in trying to restore the health of its citizens. 

In North Sumatera itself, 3,792 victims have been targeted as subjects to rehabilitation.

He continues sharing how there are already 32 hospitals that have confirmed their readiness to contribute in accommodating drugs-abusers with proper medical attention and psychological treatment.

President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo views drugs problem as too negatively overwhelming and needs to be abolished soon before it deteriorates. (Akp/Ein)
