Jokowi Categorized as 'The Most Influential Person in the World'

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Time Magazine categorizes President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo as one of the most influential person in the world. 

Since his election last year, it was already apparent that President Jokowi absorbed tremendous amount of popular support in Indonesia.

As has been illustrated by Time Magazine on Friday (17/4/2015), Jokowi is viewed to be a man who strived from the very bottom. 

He is seen to be a humble person who managed to achieve the position of being a rich businessman. This is similar to what President Soekarno has previously gone through.

He already earned celebrity- like status back in his city where he served as the Mayor. His success and prominence continued as soon as he was chosen as Jakarta’s Governor.

'I am impressed with his confidence in appointing a Christian woman to lead a metropolitan city back in 2013 despite the blatant objection made by radical Muslim organisations,' Former President of World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz said.

Paul views Jokowi's commitment to accept and cherish the diversity of religion as one of the crucial factors that made him so popularly adored.

His commitment is also seen as an encouragement for other nations with dominant Muslim population to acknowledge and respect the presence of others with differing religions and realize that successful democracy can only be attained when all individuals from varying religious background, work together in peace.

'Jokowi will need all of Indonesia's full support to maintain his current popularity and for him to address crucial issues the country currently encountering,' he added.

Apart from Jokowi, other prominent figures such as President Vladimir Putin, Time Magazine also labels Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of China Xi Jinping as the most influential people in the world. (Akp/Tnt)
