Police Raided Home of UPS Corruption-Case Suspect

Police raided 5 locations as to seek evidence needed for the furtherance of the two suspects legal process.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Involving authorities are currently preoccupied with the investigation on reported corruption- case on Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) project which was included in the 2014 Jakarta Government Regional Budget (APBD DKI).

In trying to reveal the case to its roots, Indonesian police investigating officer raided as many as 5 locations in Jakarta. 

This is done based on the premise that these locations could help provide investigating team with reliable information or evidence that could help hasten the legal process against the perpetrators behind UPS corruption- case.

"Today, investigating officer from the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Agency raided 5 places to find clue,"  Indonesian Police Commissioner, Rikwanto shared in his office at Indonesian Police headquarter, Jakarta (8/4/2015).

According to Rikwanto, the first raided location was the office of PT Offistarindo Adhiprima Managing Director, Harry Lo. The second one was Harry's home in Puri Indah, West Jakarta. The third one was West Jakarta's facilities and infrastructure managing department. The other two locations raided were the house of Jakarta Government official, Alex Usman in West Jakarta and Istana Multimedia office located in West Jakarta as well.

The investigation on these specified locations occurred since early this morning and continued until noontime. 

The evidence collected from the sites are to be further examined by investigating officers and will be used against the two suspects. They are scheduled for the second session of investigation on Thursday 9 April 2015.

"It is still in progress. The results will be verified, studied and matched to the witnesses' testimonies. Thereafter, we will have these suspects summoned for the second part of investigation process," Rikwanto explained. 

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Police Sub- Directorate Chief for Corruption- cases, Ikram explained how investigating officers have raided Harry Lo’s house and office.

"The raiding purpose on specific locations where Harry Lo spends time the most is to locate data to validate his involvement in the corruption case on UPS and files as proof for the case. In this case, PT Offistarindo played a role as the distributor or vendor," Ikram shared.

As many as 73 witnesses have been interrogated by both police officers and criminal experts from the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigating Agency (Bareskrim).

Police has confirmed the status of two regional statesmen as suspects. They are Alex Usman and Zaenal Soleman. The verdict shows that Alex Usman is the prime suspect for the corruption case on UPS.

"Corruption Directorate from Bareskrim has issued Sprin.dik-70.a/III/2015/Tipidkor with the date 23 March 2015 and investigation letter no Sprin.dik071.a/III/2015/Tipidkor with the date 23 March 2015 for Alex and Zaenal’s case," Ikram shared through a written statement in Jakarta, on the 30th of March 2015.  

Ikram explained how the two defendants have been named as suspects for corruption- case where they manipulate the 2014 regional budget for UPS in 25 schools in Jakarta.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or commonly known as Ahok reported the alleged misuse of regional budget on the 27th of February 2015 to KPK. He believes that the misuse of the budget costs the nation as much as Rp 12,1 trillion each year. (Akp/Riz)
