Police Reveals Financer Behind Potential Indonesian ISIS Members

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The hotly debated investigation regarding the missing Indonesian people who were speculated to have joined the notoriously known radical group ISIS has now reached its verdict.

The Head of Information from the Indonesian Police, Rikwanto admitted that there is a culprit behind the departure of many Indonesians and he has been known as Chep Hermawan. He has recently been named as a suspect for allegedly become the financer of potential ISIS member in the Middle East from Indonesia.

"His name is Chep Hermawan and he is speculated to have been the financer of those travelling abroad to join the contingent," Rikwanto explained at his office, Jakarta, Thursday (19/03/2015).

Rikwanto also claimed that his team has requested for further information from the suspect. However, Chep remains free from any kind of arrest. From the information collected, Chep admitted his intention was to help ISIS members who are now fighting in Syria.

Chep also affirmed how the budget given was not to perform a warfare in Indonesia but it is all his money.

"So far, he confessed that the money is his and not others," Rikwanto continued. 

Chep Hermawan's reputation is not uncommon in the Indonesian Police database. He has been categorized as one among many of individuals coming from extremist Islam groups.

He was arrested back in August 2014 as he was caught possessing ISIS attributes. He was captured at Cilacap, Central Java along with 6 of his colleagues.

The attributes found by the police were 2 ISIS flags, 5 hats symbolizing ISIS, 4 t- shirts with ISIS writing on it, 1 pin, and 3 ‘sebo’ (scarve to cover mouth). (Akp/Ein)
