BIN: 11 Indonesian Children in Turkey Allegedly Plan to Meet ISIS

The reason behind their ambition to leave and cross the border revealed.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The head of Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN), Marciano Norman speculates that the 11 children who are now being detained by the Turkey authority were driven by their mother to meet her acquaintances or their fathers who evidently have joined the notoriously known radical contingent ISIS. It has been learned that these children may not be the reason behind the ambition to go the country that is believed to be the breeding ground for the extremist group. It is assumed that the mother is the culprit behind their departure as her husband is the alleged member of the radical group.

"Many of these children are not with their fathers when they tried to cross the border with their mother. So, it is safe to assume that the fathers requested the mothers to bring the children to meet with them and join ISIS," Marciano said at the presidential palace, Central Jakarta, Friday (13/03/2015).

Marciano further explains the intention behind their departure to the country -- where ISIS is most dominant is the same as many others who have flown there to join group.

He points out the fact that many people from differing nationalities have been encouraged and brainwashed to join with the group and being militarily trained to fight against Syria.

"There are some Indonesians who work there for money or seriously pursuing their career. But there are also who participated in the group to help them fight against the Syrian government," he continued.

Marciano has extracted this information from a person who has previously joined ISIS. He has learned the characteristic of those who travel across the border to do jihad.

"They are there to do jihad by resorting to violence and using weaponry to fight against the government whose ideology is paradoxical to theirs," Marciano added.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Relations has previously confirmed that the 16 Indonesians who have been pronounced missing are not the ones currently being detained by the Turkey authorities.

"the 16 people who are now being detained at Gaziantep, Turkey are not the 16 people who have parted from their groups a couple of days ago," The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Relations Spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir told Liputan6.com. (Akp/Riz)
