The Bali Nine Duo 'Last Requests' Prior to the Execution

Both Andrew and Myuran have set foot in Nusakambangan early this morning. The execution date remains unknown.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The two alleged ringleaders of Bali Nine, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have been transferred from the correctional institution at Kerobokan, Bali to the one in Nusakambangan, Cilacap, Central Java this morning at around 08.00 am local time. They have been transferred along with the other 9 death row inmates to be executed by the firing squad. The exact date or timing for the execution remains unknown as the involving authorities have to go through a series of consideration for the preparation prior to the execution that has gained some extensive worldwide media coverage.

The two Australians are the main focus in the media as the supports for them mounted from many parts of the world. A controversial statement made by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in trying to save the lives of these two men slightly damaged the harmonious relationship between the two nations. As the consequence of Tony Abbott’s statement that clearly showed his insincere gesture when Australia donated $1 billion to Indonesia as an aid for the tsunami victim in Aceh, Indonesian citizens in many places across the globe collected money to return Australia 'favour'.

It is unquestionable however, the supports for the two men who were viewed as the ringleaders of the notorirously known group Bali Nine escalated as they have shown their willingness to change and they have contributed to the society within the correctional institutions as well. This surely invites sympathies not only in Indonesia itself, but also all across the globe.

Before they were transferred using an Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) aircraft, they requested for the authority to allow them to bring a number of stuff from Kerobokan that belong to them. The Head of the correctional institution at Kerobokan for Class II-A, Sudjonggo said Andrew Chan only asked for him to be allowed to carry the everyday clothing he usually wears to Nusakambangan.

"His everyday clothing. What he is comfortable in. That is his last request," Sudjonggo said at Kabupaten Badung, Bali, Wednesday (04/02/2015).

Whereas Myuran Sukumaran asked for two things: pencil and clothing. Everyone has acknowledged his ability to draw and he personally requested for a pencil so he could draw as the execution looms and similar to Andrew he wants to be comfortable in what he wears so he also asked for his everyday clothing to come along with him to the Nusakambangan Correctional Institution.

"Those are the last things they asked for. We went to check if there is any dangerous item but there is none so we allowed them all to pass through," Sudjonggo said.

Both Myuran and Andrew Chan cannot be executed in Bali as the local government as well as the Balinese citizens rejected the idea of having both of them executed in the holiday island. (Akp/Riz)
