Jokowi's Strategy to Prevent the Widespread of ISIS

Liputan6.com, Jakarta President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo wants the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian Police (Polri) to focus on combating and preventing terrorism before its widespread becomes widened to the point that it can no longer be controlled. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tedjo Edhy Purdjiatno confirmed the President’s ambition. He said that President Jokowi specifically pressures the involving authority to keep and eye and seek for strategy to address terrorism issue which now has become more dangerous especially with many of Indonesian citizens reportedly fled abroad and joined ISIS.

Tedjo believes that terrorism has become an international issue that requires extra attention as it has become exacerbated overtime.

"We are trying to prevent that from happening. We don’t want for things to happen without our acknowledgment. Don’t be alerted when things already happen. We have to prevent it from happening in the very first place. Terrorism is a worldwide issue. That is why, Indonesia has to ready itself for the worst and we have to keep an eye out on the radical group ISIS," Tedjo said. 

In trying to prevent the spread of ISIS, Jokowi has instructed the Indonesian armed Forces Commander Moeldoko and the Deputy Chairman of Indonesian Police, Badrodin Haiti to do coaching or training on many levels of society about Islam that is tolerant and accept co-existence. Jokowi wants the authority to be involved in this particular situation. That is by encouraging all Indonesian the danger ISIS pose to the world and the harm to the families of the members. There needs to be an educative information about the real Islam that respects all religion.

"The President is clear. Prevention of it from deteriorating is of paramount importance. And then, he wants us to train or coach or basically educate people, through religion, culture and education platforms about what is true and what is being misled. This is for them to know how ISIS led many people astray by giving them false hope," he continued. 

President Jokowi also stresses the need for cross- sectoral work thus the effectiveness and efficiency of the law enforcers can be maximized to its potential. This is also to assure a more secure way to establish comfort despite the growing fright of ISIS widespread.

"There are a number of challenges that will be encountered in the future and we have to face it together. We will also have to find a solution to address such issue and find the right strategy to prevent it from occurring in the very first place. I am sure we are not the only country who is preparing to combat the widespread of terrorism, especially ISIS," Jokowi said. (Akp/Riz)
