Security Measures Increased as JK Heads for Tsunami Commemoration

Liputan6.com, Aceh - Joined military and police forces amounting to 3,929 personnel were deployed to assure VP security throughout the tsunami commemoration.

Aceh Military Regional Command called Iskandar Muda is preparing themselves as they deploy thousands of both military and police personnel to anticipate the safe arrival of Vice President Jusuf Kalla to the city that once was devastated by the tsunami. The purpose of his visitation is to commemorate 10 years after the tsunami attacked the city.

The vice Deputy in Chief of Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command (Wakapendam) Colonel Budi Haryono explains how he has prepared 2,491 Indonesian Armed Forces personnel, 66 navy personnel, 170 airforce personnel and 1,200 police forces.

"So the total force that we are deploying amounting to 3,929 personnel from both the military and police forces," Budi said in Banda Aceh, Provinsi Aceh, Thursday (25/12/2014).

Meanwhile, Indonesian Military Forces reduces the amount of sniper, tactical vehicles, water cannon and other security equipment and decide to deploy more of its personnel rather than the equipment.

The 10th commemoration’s of Tsunami will be attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Whereas previous information received by Aceh government initially suggested that the President himself would attend the commemoration.

Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to arrive in Banda Aceh on Thursday afternoon. Apart from the vice president, 25 country representatives will also take part in the reconstruction of Aceh post- tsunami.

As observed by Liputan6.com, there is evidence of joined military and police forces invigilating many places as the Christmas day progresses. Places being regularly monitored include Masjid Raya, Blang Padang field, Tsunami Museum and other equally significant locations. (Akp/Riz)
