President Jokowi Confirms Indonesia's Foreign Policy

Joko Widodo's first speech as the President gave an overview of the future of this country for five years of his term.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Joko Widodo's first speech as the President gave an overview of the future of this country for five years of his term. Jokowi, as he is familiarly called, was determined to return the sea to uphold previous glory of the archipelago in the ocean. He also reaffirmed Indonesia's attitude in relations between nations.

In front of the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Secretary of the US John Kerry, the Dutch Minister Herman Tjeenk Willink, representatives of the ruling party of China and a number of leaders of neighboring countries, including Malaysia, Brunei, East Timor, Thailand, Indonesia President Jokowi asserted his attitude.

"I affirm under my rule, Indonesia as the third largest country, with the largest Muslim population in the world, as part of Southeast Asia, we will carry out free and active politics, which is devoted to the national interest, and help create a world order, " said the President.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with Fairfax Media, as published in The Age October 18th, 2014, he 'warned' Australia not to encroach on the territory of Indonesia, as happened recently when a ship from the Royal Australian Navy expelled asylum seekers.

We will give you a warning, it is unacceptable, "said Jokowi.  "We have international law, and you (Australia) have to respect it." (Ein)
